Tinubu Doesn't Have to Be at Every APC Rally, Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has backed President Bola Tinubu’s choice not to attend every campaign rally for the 2027 general elections.

He said there is no conflict between the President’s religious duties and his job to run the country.

Oshiomhole explained that Tinubu’s decision to limit his campaign presence is a personal choice and a right of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He shared these views during an interview on Arise Television on Friday. This was in response to questions about the President missing some APC rallies while focusing on his spiritual duties in Mecca.

The former governor of Edo State dismissed claims that there is any inconsistency in the President's actions. He said there is no clash between Tinubu's religious commitments and his role in governance.

“So, I don’t see what the contradiction is. There is none. He didn’t say, ‘I will stop worshipping God, I will stop praying so that I can constitute a governance,’” he stated.

Oshiomhole argued that the President doesn’t need to be at every event to fulfill his responsibilities as a leader.

“A president is not like a teacher who must be in the classroom. But even now, you can be taught online,” he added.

He also criticized the constant questioning of the President's choices, saying the matter has been talked about enough and should not continue to be debated.

He further emphasized that the APC has the right to plan its campaign and decide where the President will show up.

“Since you are not one of our supporters, you should be happy that the President is not going to go everywhere, and then you try to make a point out of that,” he said.

The conversation became heated as Oshiomhole accused the interviewer of interrupting him too much.

“You ask questions, you interject, you interrupt. Look, I am well-travelled and I watch TV stations and I watch TV hosts. There is no contradiction,” he said.

He added, “It is our right, it’s our prerogative to decide where we go, where the President goes and where he doesn’t.”

Tinubu had earlier mentioned that he would not attend every APC rally for the upcoming elections. He pointed out that he needs to focus on governance and other duties for the country.

The President encouraged party members to take charge of mobilizing support across the nation. He stressed that campaigning should not distract him from his responsibilities as a leader.
