NDC Gains Support After INEC Error, Says Gwarzo's Spokesman

The spokesman for Aminu Gwarzo, the Kano State governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, said the mix-up over the omission and later restoration of Gwarzo’s name by the Independent National Electoral Commission has boosted the party's popularity ahead of the 2027 election.

On Friday, Shuaibu reacted to INEC’s decision to restore Gwarzo’s name. He said the party was not worried about the earlier issue because they were sure that all electoral rules were followed.

He noted that the decision was expected. Party members felt the omission was just a small issue that would be fixed.

“We were not frightened because we followed all the laid-down procedures from party membership to the nomination process and submission of our candidate’s details,” he said.

Shuaibu claimed that the situation has created public sympathy and brought more supporters to the party.

“What the electoral commission intended as a setback has actually worked in our favour. It has increased our supporters, strengthened our popularity and made more people identify with us,” he said.

He added that the party will keep mobilising voters and spreading its message across the state. He is confident that this situation has improved their chances in the upcoming governorship election.

INEC’s restoration of Gwarzo’s name came after the earlier controversy about its omission from the candidates' list.
