Trump Faces Setback as Democrats Gain Power in Congress

President Donald Trump has been expressing his frustrations on Truth Social after Republicans faced big losses in the US midterm elections. They have lost control of both the Senate and the House to the Democrats in what many are calling a blue tsunami.

Republicans did not just lose in close races. They also lost in strong Republican areas like Texas and South Carolina. They even lost districts they had redrawn to make things easier for themselves.

As of now, the Democratic Party looks set to hold the majority in the Senate with 54 seats compared to 43 for the Republicans. In the House, Democrats have 228 seats while Republicans have 137.

More votes are still being counted, and some seats have not yet been decided as of Wednesday morning.

The Democrats flipped six Senate seats that were previously held by Republicans. They needed these wins to take the majority, and they succeeded in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In these states, Trump had personally picked the nominees or campaigned for them.

With Democrats now in control of Congress, things will change for Trump in the last two years of his presidency. His plans for new laws will face more challenges.

The Democrats will have more power to investigate, examine executive decisions, and push back against the administration's priorities. It will be tougher for the administration to get major laws passed on immigration, taxes, healthcare, and spending.

The election results also showed that voters are unhappy about high prices, the war with Iran, and corruption in government.

Trump admitted that the war with Iran contributed to his party’s losses in the midterms. He mentioned that voters might not be ready to deal with the short-term effects of rising petrol and diesel prices, which he linked to the Iran war he started.

“I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time, people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran,” he told Fox News.

He also stated to the New York Times that he would accept the election results. On Truth Social, Trump announced he would become a “Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!”

In another post, he shared a picture of himself wearing a red cap that said “VETO.” This was a nod to his earlier comments about using his veto power to block laws he disagrees with, even if they are passed by Congress.
