Yayi threatens to sue over claims he is from Ekiti

The governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, has said he will take legal action against two people. They claimed he is from Ekiti State.

Yayi, who is the senator representing Ogun West, has given Hon Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party 24 hours to prove their claims or face lawsuits.

A statement from his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, said that Hunye and Marcus-Bello made these claims during interviews on Channels Television.

Odunaro mentioned that the two individuals said Adeola was an indigene of Ekiti State but did not provide any proof to back their claims.

Adeola called the claims false and damaging. He demanded that the two provide evidence of his state of origin within 24 hours.

"I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof. One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went moronically blank and could not provide an answer. The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood. Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits," the senator stated.

This threat comes as the debate over his roots heats up ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

PUNCH Online reported that traditional councils in Kemta, Ogun State, confirmed Adeola's connection to the community.

The Oluwo of Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland, Chief Abayomi Rotimi, made this known at a press conference at the Ile Ogboni of Kemta.

Rotimi said Adeola, known as Yayi, is a son of the community, regardless of the political differences among residents.

"Yayi is one of us. He is our son. We have different political parties here. We have PDP, APC, Accord and others. Whoever is our son is our son, and whoever comes here for us to help, we accept him.

"Whoever wants to vote should vote for whomever he wants. But you cannot bring politics into this house," he said.

He added that politics should not affect the traditional institution's work.

Rotimi also rejected rumors on social media that the Ile Ogboni of Kemta was closed because of Adeola’s ties to the community.

He called these rumors false and politically driven, urging those behind the claims to come and see for themselves.

The statement from Adeola’s media adviser said the claim about the senator’s supposed Ekiti roots has been used in past political campaigns against him.

It noted that the claim has resurfaced as Adeola seems to be moving closer to the 2027 governorship election.
