The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N24 million to former senator Alaba Obende. This money was recovered during an investigation into a supposed conspiracy and fake sale of shares.
Alaba Obende was the senator for Edo North from 2011 to 2015 during the 7th National Assembly.
The EFCC handed over the funds on Thursday at their Lagos Zonal Directorate 2. The money came in three bank drafts from Access Bank, as stated in a press release from the EFCC on Friday.
According to the EFCC, this recovery came after they got a petition on January 15, 2020. The petition accused Coronation Securities Limited of conspiracy and the fraudulent sale of shares.
The EFCC did not share more details about the alleged fraud or how the money was recovered.
This handover is part of the EFCC’s latest efforts to recover assets in Lagos.
