Suspected bandits have killed five police officers. They were on their way from Sokoto State to Zamfara State for a special duty assignment when their convoy was attacked.

PUNCH Metro learned that the attack happened on Sunday. The officers were travelling in three vehicles when armed men ambushed them.

One police officer, who escaped the attack, confirmed this. He said the gunmen suddenly opened fire on the vehicle at the back of the convoy.

Speaking anonymously, the officer shared that five of his colleagues were killed in the attack. He said, "We were travelling in three vehicles when they suddenly opened fire on the third vehicle behind us. Five of our members were killed in the process."

The officer explained that most of the team was deployed for a special duty in Zamfara State when the incident happened.
