Gada starts campaign in Sokoto East, seeks support for PDP

Former senator and Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Sokoto East, Abubakar Gada, has called on voters to back the party as it aims to regain power. He is confident about their chances in the 2027 general elections.

Gada made this call on Saturday during the launch of his senatorial campaign in Gwadabawa town. He urged party supporters to reignite their political passion and mobilise for the PDP's return.

He described Sokoto East as a traditional stronghold of the PDP. He said the campaign aims to boost the confidence and determination of supporters to regain their political influence.

"Sokoto East is traditionally a PDP zone. Past performance data and records have shown that. So, it is just to awaken them and bring back their self-consciousness, determination and readiness to take over," he said.

The former senator, who once represented the district in the National Assembly, expressed pride in his political record. He believes that his past performance is a strong point for his candidacy.

"I do not want to sound immodest, but I am always proud of my performance the last time I was in the Senate. People have recently made efforts, and I think they have done a lot, but compared to what we achieved at the time, it was absolutely incredible," he said.

On the issues of security and poverty in the district, Gada called for more attention from the Federal Government. He highlighted the need for urgent and ongoing support for these areas.

He mentioned that effective public policy and government prioritization are key to tackling the challenges facing the district and similar communities in Nigeria.

Gada also reminded voters of the power of their votes. He warned that their choices at the polls would greatly impact their future.

"They are the power. Their votes are their guns and arsenals. Their voice is their weapon of battle. They should respect and understand that this is their God-given right," he said.

He added, "If they mess it up, they are messing up their future. If they hold it dearly and use it for the purpose for which it is meant, they will elect credible leadership that is sensitive to people’s yearnings and aspirations and their predicaments."

Also speaking at the event, the PDP leader in Sokoto State and the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, urged voters in the district to support the party’s return to power.

Bature called Gada a reliable candidate, noting that his past time in the Senate was marked by fulfilling campaign promises.

He stated that the PDP is working hard to reclaim the Sokoto State Government House and win in all three senatorial districts.

Bature encouraged party members and supporters to stay dedicated to the party’s mission and mobilise residents in the district ahead of the 2027 elections.
