2027: Four Governors from the South-East Urge Igbos to Vote for Tinubu

Governors from Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states have asked their people to ignore political distractions and vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The governors made this appeal on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mega Rally and Empowerment Programme for the South-East, which took place at Okpara Square in Enugu.

The governors are Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo.

Mr Mbah encouraged the South-East people to support Mr Tinubu’s re-election bid. He said this would help him build on the good work he has done so far with economic reforms.

He linked ongoing projects, like building primary healthcare centres, to the federal government’s reforms. He also asked women to back Mr Tinubu and APC candidates in the elections on January 16, 2027, and beyond.

“A good sailor does not abandon his ship mid-sea because of challenges. We must finish the journey we all started together,” he said.

Mr Mbah called Southeasterners strategic people with businesses and connections outside their region. He urged them to get involved in politics.

He talked about the empowerment programme aimed at helping 5,000 women in the South-East. This follows an earlier initiative that helped over 2,000 women in Enugu in just 48 hours.

Under the programme, beneficiaries received cash support, help with hospital bills, and tools to help them earn income. He said the goal is to turn women into wealth creators instead of just recipients of aid.

“When you empower a woman, you strengthen the family. When you empower a woman, you build a strong community,” he said.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the support wisely and share the benefits with their families and communities.

Mr Uzodimma also spoke at the rally. He called it historic and praised the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her efforts to empower women in the South-East.

He reaffirmed the region’s support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He explained that Igbos have faced marginalization for over 60 years but are now seeing a new era of inclusion and growth under Tinubu.

He thanked the president for improving infrastructure and economic growth in the South-East. “We are now seeing good roads, electricity, health reforms, as well as educational reforms in the country. A winning team must not be changed,” he said.

The governor urged voters to keep up the current development path, saying the Federal Government’s reforms have made more resources available for state development.

“We have more money to build Okigwe to Owerri, Umuahia to Owerri, Orlu to Owerri, and Owerri to Port Harcourt roads,” he said.

Mr Uzodimma added that the improved finances of the state have allowed his government to pay salaries and pensions consistently, including 13th-month salaries for workers.

Mr Nwifuru praised the skills training and empowerment initiatives of the APC-led administration. He asked South-East women to vote for the party in large numbers.

He said APC is the only party with a clear plan for the country’s development. He dismissed claims that he might join any political coalition, saying his loyalty is with the APC.

He urged supporters to vote for APC candidates at all levels in the January 2027 elections and future polls.

Mr Soludo, represented by his deputy, Gilbert Ibezim, stated that the South-East must support Tinubu’s re-election to show appreciation for his government’s achievements.

He said the region stands to gain more from working together with the Federal Government.

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, also urged Igbos to support Tinubu’s re-election for greater political inclusion.

He mentioned that the Igbo have not had a president in Nigeria for the past 60 years and stressed the need for stronger political ties. He recalled Mr Tinubu’s good relationships with the Igbo while he was governor of Lagos State.

He praised the Tinubu administration for setting up the South East Development Commission (SEDC). He said it is a significant step towards solving the region’s development issues.
