Lagos Government Pays N3.1 Billion to Property Owners for Infrastructure Projects

The Lagos State Government has paid N3.1 billion to 331 property owners. Their lands and buildings were taken for major infrastructure projects in different areas of the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared this news on Monday via his X account. He mentioned that the beneficiaries are property owners in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo, and Ogba.

The governor stated that this compensation is part of the state’s promise to treat residents fairly when public infrastructure projects affect them.

“Today, I presented N3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for key infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba,” Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote.

He acknowledged that compulsory land acquisition impacts residents and businesses. The government has a duty to ensure that affected property owners receive compensation.

“As we build the roads and public infrastructure Lagos needs, we must also do right by the people whose lives are directly affected,” he said.

The governor explained that all compensation claims went through verification before payment was approved.

Sanwo-Olu also recognized the sacrifices made by residents affected by these projects. He noted that while the infrastructure will benefit many Lagosians, fairness must not be overlooked.

This compensation exercise shows his administration’s dedication to accountability and fair governance.

“Behind every property is a family, a home or a business. While these projects will benefit millions of Lagosians, I do not take the sacrifice of those who made them possible for granted.

“We made a promise to govern with fairness and accountability. Today was another opportunity to keep that promise,” he said.

According to Nigerian law, governments must pay compensation to property owners when their land is taken for public use. The Lagos State Government continues to acquire land for road expansion, urban renewal, and other infrastructure projects. These efforts aim to improve transportation and public services across the state.
