Plateau State Boosts Health Measures Against Ebola

The Plateau State Government has reopened isolation centres and is stepping up disease monitoring to stop any possible Ebola outbreak in the state. This comes as there is rising concern about the disease across Nigeria.

The state Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Ba’amlong, shared this news during a press briefing in Jos on Monday.

Mr Ba’amlong mentioned that the government has asked its emergency team to check safety measures at the airport and inform local government areas near the borders.

He also encouraged residents to keep good hygiene, stay away from people who may be infected, and quickly report any suspected cases to health officials.

"Wash your hands regularly and avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected infected persons," the commissioner advised.

He added that public cooperation is key to stopping the spread of the disease. He urged everyone to stay alert and follow health guidelines.

These actions are part of the state government’s larger plan to boost its response to public health emergencies.

Mr Ba’amlong stated that 10 resolutions were approved at last week’s 12th Plateau State Council on Health meeting to enhance healthcare services and prepare the state for disease outbreaks.

These resolutions include setting up a state health trust fund, improving disease monitoring, addressing the lack of health workers, and creating an emergency fund for public health threats.

According to the commissioner, these initiatives aim to improve the state’s ability to notice and react to disease outbreaks, while also tackling issues affecting healthcare delivery.

He stressed the importance of residents following health guidelines and reporting suspected cases to health authorities without delay.

The state government did not share how many isolation centres have been reopened or give details about the airport safety checks during the briefing.
