Police catch 14 suspected cult members in Enugu

The Enugu State Police say they have arrested 14 suspected cult members in two operations across the state. They also recovered two guns, three live cartridges, and other items linked to the suspects.

Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Wednesday. He said these operations are part of the police's ongoing fight against cultism and other violent crimes.

Ndukwe explained that officers from the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit found a homemade single-barrel pistol hidden in a bush in Eha-Amufu, located in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. They made this discovery after a suspect, Nwodo Peters Chinweokwu, also called “Sir-P” or “Biggy,” confessed.

Chinweokwu had already been detained during a joint operation. He was with seven other suspects: Nnaji Emmanuel, 34; Iroegbu Joshua, 18; Nwafor Miracle, 28; Ogbonna Moses Osinachi, 19; Oha Chidiebere Francis, 24; Udebuani Chukwuma, 30; and Elochukwu Oko, known as “Benson,” 29.

Second Operation

In another operation at 2 am on the same day, police acted on information from another suspect, Izuchukwu Obieze, known as “Small.” They arrested five more suspects in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

“The operation led to the arrest of Oscar Ebuka (37), Eze Chimaobi Godson, known as ‘Torpedo’ (36), Ukeje Kingsley (37), Tochukwu Chilo, known as ‘Boss Me’ (26), and Nnamezie Amechi, known as ‘Obodobuigwe’ (46). They also recovered a pump-action gun with three live cartridges,” the statement said.

Ndukwe said investigations are still ongoing. He mentioned that the suspects are giving helpful information to catch other suspects who are on the run and to recover more items.

He added that all suspects will be charged after the investigations are complete.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the officers for their successful operations. He also assured the public of the police's dedication to fighting cultism, robbery, and other violent crimes in the state.

Giwa urged everyone to stay alert and follow the law. He asked residents to keep supporting the police with useful and timely information.
