The police in Anambra State have arrested Chima Ogumba, a 49-year-old man suspected of armed robbery.
The police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, shared this news on Tuesday. He said the arrest happened on Monday morning.
Ikenga, a superintendent of police, explained that the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu raided Ogumba's home on Nkpor Road, Idemili North Local Government Area.
“When the operatives arrived at the area, they searched the suspect. They found one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges,” he said.
Ikenga added that Ogumba could not explain why he had the gun and bullets.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation into Ogumba's case. He wants to find out if the suspect is connected to other crimes in the state.
Ama mentioned that the investigation will also look into where Ogumba got the gun and bullets, and what he planned to do with them.
He emphasized that the police are focused on operations based on intelligence. They aim to do proactive policing, targeted patrols, and continuous tactical actions to identify and break up criminal groups in Anambra State.
