Two people, a man and a woman, died when a motorcycle crashed into a Dongfeng pickup in Koto Ajala, heading toward Owode, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Monday.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday morning.
Akinbiyi said the accident happened because the motorcyclist was speeding and lost control. An eyewitness reported that the rider lost control while going down Koto Ajala and crashed into the oncoming Dongfeng pickup.
He mentioned that both people on the motorcycle died in the accident. He said, "The motorcycle, with registration number FFF 689 HA, collided with the Dongfeng pickup bearing registration number GGE 200 KP."
Akinbiyi continued, "The crash claimed the lives of the two occupants of the motorcycle, while no other injuries were recorded. FRSC officials evacuated the bodies to the Fakoya Hospital Morgue in Sagamu."
He added that the damaged motorcycle and the pickup were taken to the local police station for further investigation.
Akinbiyi also noted that traffic was affected right after the crash but was cleared up quickly. He said, "Normalcy has since been restored on the route following traffic management by TRACE and FRSC officials."
