Anambra government shuts down orphanage for poor conditions
The Anambra government has shut down the Arrow of God Children’s Home due to poor conditions. Eight children were rescued from the facility.

The Anambra State Government has shut down an orphanage in Nwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area. This decision was made due to poor service and dirty conditions.
The Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Children’s Welfare, Esther Onyekesi, shared this news on Saturday after visiting the orphanage.
The visit was to check on the operational standards and the welfare of the children at the Arrow of God Children’s Home.
Mrs Onyekesi explained that the home did not meet the required standards. She said the dirty environment raised serious concerns for the children’s welfare.
“The Arrow of God Children’s Home, Nwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, is operating below the required standards, with an unhygienic environment posing concerns for the welfare of the children,” she said.
She mentioned that the inspection team closed the facility, which is owned by retired Lieutenant Colonel Deborah Ogoo, for not meeting the rules.

“This home is hereby sealed by the inspection team over its failure to meet the prescribed standards,” she said.
Mrs Onyekesi also emphasized that the state government is dedicated to protecting children. She wants to ensure that homes provide safe and clean environments.
She made it clear that no children's home would be allowed to put the safety, dignity, and well-being of children at risk.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that eight children were rescued from the orphanage.
