The Anambra State Police have arrested two men, Umeh Thankgod, 32, and Sunday Ozor, 24. They were caught with a stolen blue Toyota Camry after a tip-off from the Federal Road Safety Corps during a routine vehicle registration check.

Police investigations show that the car was stolen from a 90-year-old retired professor living in Nsukka, Enugu State.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, said the arrests happened on October 28, 2026. The police operatives from the State Intelligence Department made the arrests at the Old Spare Parts Market in Mgbuka, Obosi.

Ikenga explained that the arrests came after the alert from the FRSC. The operatives in Awka noticed some irregularities when checking the vehicle’s registration and quickly informed the police.

The statement said, "The suspects, Umeh Thankgod, aged 32, and Sunday Ozor, aged 24, were arrested in the evening of 28th October 2026 by operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department at the Old Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi, following the FRSC alert."

"Preliminary information indicates that FRSC operatives in Awka detected irregularities during the verification of the vehicle’s registration particulars and promptly alerted the Police for necessary intervention."

"Acting on the information, police operatives swiftly intervened, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and recovery of the vehicle."

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, praised the FRSC workers for being alert and reporting quickly.

Ama stressed that good teamwork between agencies, timely sharing of information, and organized responses are crucial for stopping crime, recovering stolen items, and keeping the public safe.
