Cleaner arrested for stealing corper’s N18m car in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police has arrested a 26-year-old man and recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport worth about N18m.

Reports from PUNCH Metro on Tuesday showed that the suspect is a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital. The car belongs to a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps who works as a doctor there.

In a Tuesday statement, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police spokesman, said the suspect, Mohammed Dan-Azumi, was caught in Kano State.

The police said they acted after the car owner reported that he had given the car to the suspect for washing. He claimed the suspect ran away with the vehicle.

"The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination.

"Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department, Yola, launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that led to the tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered," the statement noted.

The police also mentioned that investigations are still ongoing. They said the suspect would be taken to court once the investigation is complete.

CP Kabiru Hassan, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, praised the investigation team for their hard work.

He assured the public that the police would keep fighting against all forms of crime. He also asked people to keep giving the police timely and credible information.
