A worker was rescued on Sunday after a fence wall fell during demolition work at Kofar Mata Zango in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service shared the news in a statement on Sunday. ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer, provided details about the incident.

The Emergency Response Unit got a distress call around 8:49 a.m. from Naziru Ahmad, who reported the collapse. Firefighters from the service headquarters quickly went to the site to help.

At the scene, they saw a residential building about 30 by 20 feet that was being pulled down. The statement mentioned that the fence wall became unstable during the work, trapping Sadiq Ahmad, one of the workers, as he tried to get away.

“Our rescue team jumped into action and successfully saved the victim alive. He was taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and handed over to his brother, Naziru Ahmad, for medical care,” the statement said.

The Fire Service said they are still looking into what caused the wall to fall. They also urged residents and construction workers to follow safety rules during demolition and construction tasks to prevent similar accidents.

“We call on the public to take all necessary safety measures during demolition and construction work to avoid accidents that could have been prevented,” the statement added.
