The Bauchi State Police have arrested a 40-year-old man named Clement Anthony. He is linked to the murder of a community leader. The police also recovered a locally made single-barrel gun that he supposedly used in the crime.
The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday in Bauchi.
The incident happened on July 19, 2026. A 47-year-old man from Unguwar Ngas in Bauchi Local Government Area reported it at the 'A' Division Township Police Station.
Habib, the complainant, said, "On that day, while at Unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, Clement Anthony, aged 40 and living in the same area, took a locally made single-barrel gun and shot Mr. Jacob Bature, a 55-year-old Mai Anguwan Ngas from the same place. The victim was hit in the right ribs and fell unconscious, slipping into a coma."
He continued, "He was quickly taken to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. A doctor confirmed he died from the gunshot injury. His body is now in the hospital morgue for further investigation."
The police spokesperson added, "After the incident, police officers acted fast and arrested the suspect. They found the locally made gun and an empty cartridge with him."
Habib noted that the case has now been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
He said, "The suspect will face charges in court after the investigation is complete."
The statement also included a quote from the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu. He condemned the incident and stressed that the police are focused on fighting violent crimes.
Habib mentioned, "The Commissioner of Police has called this act unacceptable. He assured the public that the Command is dedicated to making sure those who commit violent crimes are punished."
He also encouraged residents to avoid illegal gun ownership and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
