Police nab three robbery suspects in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers in Ibadan, the state capital. They also recovered a gun and ammunition during the operation.

The police shared this news in a statement on Monday. The statement came from DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command's Public Relations Officer. He made it available to journalists in Ibadan.

Ayanlade said the suspects were caught in the Sabo-Mokola area of Ibadan. Operatives from the command’s Monitoring Unit took action based on credible information.

The suspects are Tomiwa Ayomide, 28; Haruna Kabiru, 32; and Haruna Hassan, known as “Malo”, who is also 32.

A search of their hideout led to the recovery of one single-barrel, locally made cut-to-size gun and seven cartridges. The police are keeping the suspects in custody while they investigate further.

The statement noted, “The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained efforts to rid the state of violent crimes with the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a firearm and ammunition.

“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected armed robbers operating from a hideout within the Sabo-Mokola area of Ibadan, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit conducted a coordinated raid on the identified apartment in the early hours of the day.

“During the operation, three suspects identified as Tomiwa Ayomide (28 years), Haruna Kabiru (32 years), and Haruna Hassan alias ‘Malo’ (32 years) were arrested.

“A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one single-barrel locally made cut-to-size gun and seven cartridges.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine their involvement in other criminal activities and to apprehend possible accomplices.”

The command promised to keep protecting lives and property. They also urged residents to continue giving timely and credible information to help fight crime across the state.
