Abiodun, a man in his early 30s, died by suicide in Lagos after his girlfriend ended their relationship. He consumed insecticide during an argument.
A man named Abiodun has died by suicide in the Idimu area of Lagos State. This happened after a fight with his girlfriend about their relationship.
PUNCH Metro found out on Wednesday that the incident took place in the Ire Akari area on Saturday. His girlfriend reportedly told him she was no longer interested in continuing their relationship.
Abiodun, who was in his early 30s, was arguing with the woman when she made her decision known. Upset by this news, he drank insecticide that he was holding.
A local resident, who wanted to stay anonymous, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that Abiodun was taken to a hospital on Powerline Road, where he later died.
"He was having issues with his girlfriend, which led to an argument on Saturday evening. She eventually told him that she didn’t want to continue the relationship and left the house. By the time she returned, Abiodun had already consumed the insecticide. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died," the resident explained.
The source also said that Abiodun’s mother was quickly informed and tried to get him medical help. "His mother works at a supermarket nearby and did everything she could to help him. Neighbors had already taken him to the hospital when she was alerted. She then tried to gather money for his medical bills.

“It was when she returned to the hospital with the necessary drugs on Sunday morning that she learned of his death,” the source added.
The resident mentioned that Abiodun was buried on Monday.
PUNCH Metro also found out that since the incident, no one knows where his girlfriend is.
When asked about the situation, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she didn’t have any information on the case.
She promised to get back with details but had not done so as of the time of this report.
