Police ask for help to find mother of abandoned baby in Abuja
The police in Abuja are searching for the mother of a baby boy who was found abandoned and injured in Bwari Area Council. Residents are urged to assist in the search.
The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory is asking people in Bwari Area Council to help find the mother of a baby boy who was left behind.
The baby was found hurt and wrapped in a nylon bag. He had bruises on one of his hands.
Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, shared this information in a video on X on Wednesday. She said the police took the baby to the hospital for treatment.
"We picked this child yesterday in Bwari Area Council, and we have been managing the baby since morning because he was not in a good condition. We found him in a very bad state. He is a baby boy," Adeh stated.
She asked people, especially those in Bwari, to help the police find the baby’s mother.
"As usual, we are calling on residents living around Bwari Area Council to help us locate the mother of this baby. The baby boy was abandoned, wrapped in a nylon bag, and was badly injured. He sustained some bruises on his hand," she mentioned.
Areh noted that the baby has received medical care and will go back for further treatment before being given to social welfare services.

"We are trying to manage the situation. We just brought him back from the hospital. We will be taking him back, and we will hand him over to social welfare," she added.
She also encouraged anyone who knows a woman who was recently pregnant but is no longer seen with the pregnancy to reach out to the Bwari Police Station.
"Please, residents of the FCT, most especially Bwari Area Council, if you notice any young lady who had been pregnant but is no longer seen with the pregnancy, please reach out to the Bwari Police Station with details that can help us locate the mother," Adeh urged.
Areh reminded women who cannot care for their babies to seek help from social welfare offices or police stations rather than abandoning them.
"To you young ladies out there, I am begging you, please, if you don’t want the baby, you can walk into a social welfare office or the nearest police station, and we will assist you. Instead of abandoning these children, come to us; we will help you. Many parents want these children," she said.
