Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has launched the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 elections. He asked members to boost grassroots efforts and run peaceful, issue-based campaigns.

The event happened on Monday at the Government House in Rayfield, Jos. It brought together party leaders, political stakeholders, and campaign coordinators as they prepare for the elections.

The campaign council will manage the re-election campaigns of President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Governor Mutfwang, and his deputy, Josephine Piyo, along with APC candidates for the National and State Assemblies.

While inaugurating the council, Mutfwang thanked people for their support. He said his government has made progress in key areas but needs another term to build on its development plans.

He pointed out that no government can finish every project in one term. He described governance as a continuous journey that requires everyone’s commitment.

“There is no government that ends everything. Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” he said.

On security, the governor recognized ongoing challenges in the state. He mentioned that his administration is putting measures in place to protect lives and property.

He shared that there are plans to help internally displaced persons (IDPs) return to their homes. He also mentioned that at least 800 trained forest guards would soon be deployed to enhance security in vulnerable areas.

Mutfwang also revealed plans to launch another set of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel to improve the state’s security structure.

Addressing the economic issues Nigerians face, the governor noted the difficulties caused by current economic reforms. Still, he defended Tinubu’s policies, saying the country needs time to recover from long-standing financial problems.

He listed some actions his government has taken to ease the economic impact, like introducing Tin City Metro buses, reviving rail services in Jos, cutting tuition fees at state-owned schools by 50 percent, and increasing student allowances by 300 percent.

Mutfwang urged APC members and candidates to collaborate. He emphasized that the party's success will heavily rely on effective grassroots mobilization at the ward and polling-unit levels.

“The votes are in the polling unit. They are not in Jos. Everybody can only matter in the locality where you come from,” he said.

He also asked campaign council members to steer clear of political bitterness. He urged them to show humility and share the policies of APC-led governments through positive interactions with voters.

Earlier, Joseph Ari, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, thanked the governor for trusting him and the team.

Ari promised that the campaign would focus on discipline, teamwork, and effective organization. He called the governor’s ‘Time Is Now’ policy a guide for development. He added that unity and peaceful coexistence are vital for lasting progress in the state.

He said the campaign council has received support from 115 groups, including visits and backing from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths, and other organized groups.

He promised that the campaign would stay factual and issue-based while focusing on inclusive mobilization and good communication across the state.

Ari also invited APC members and residents to come out on November 14 to welcome President Tinubu, Vice-President Shettima, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and other national leaders during their visit to Plateau.

In his remarks, Plateau APC Chairman Rufus Bature called the inauguration a key step towards setting up a well-coordinated campaign for the 2027 elections. He encouraged members to strengthen the party’s presence in polling units through grassroots efforts, loyalty, effective communication, and accountability.

He added that the party is open to including more stakeholders as they prepare for the elections.
