The Delta State Police Command has arrested 81 suspected criminals during raids in Asaba. The police conducted these operations based on intelligence about places known for crime.
SP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, shared this news in a statement to journalists in Warri on Saturday. He said this action took place on July 24, 2026. The raids aimed to break down criminal networks and prevent criminals from finding safe spots in the state.
Edafe mentioned that the operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who is in charge of Operations, along with tactical teams from the command.
In the statement, he said, "Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives raided identified criminal flashpoints, leading to the arrest of 81 suspects comprising 50 males and 31 females."
The suspects face charges for selling and possessing suspected illegal drugs and for setting up an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge. The police recovered large amounts of Tramadol and substances believed to be Indian hemp during the operation.
The police also took five vehicles for different violations. These included running an unauthorized taxi park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road and helping to sell and distribute suspected illegal drugs in the area.
The suspects and the items seized are still with the police as investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, the State Commissioner of Police, has confirmed the command’s strong focus on intelligence-led policing. He emphasized the need for proactive crime prevention in the state.
The commissioner also warned people involved in crime to stop immediately or face serious consequences under the law.
