The Anambra State Police Command has reported that Mrs Dim Ebere, 47, the teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old boy to death in a school at Adazi-Enu, has surrendered to the Neni Police Station in the same area.
The police had previously started a manhunt for her after the boy died from injuries he got during the flogging.
On Saturday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the police, said the teacher turned herself in after the police's Safe School Protection Squad worked hard to find her.
Ikenga explained that the operation was done with help from officers at the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters and through talks with community leaders and stakeholders in Adazi-Ani.
The suspect is now in police custody and will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, where the investigation will continue.
The statement said, "Following sustained manhunt operations by the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, and continuous engagement with stakeholders and community leaders in Adazi-Ani, the principal suspect, Mrs Dim Ebere, aged 47, has voluntarily presented herself at the Neni Police Station."
"The suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, where the ongoing investigation will be concluded."
The Command thanked the Adazi-Ani community, the traditional leaders, and others who supported in making sure the suspect surrendered.
The family of the deceased and the public have been assured that the police are dedicated to making sure justice is served.
The Command also asked the public to stay calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and keep giving useful information that will help with the ongoing investigations and other police work in the state.
