Worker at Delta Eatery Killed by Suspected Cultists

An eatery worker known as Jeffrey has been shot dead by suspected cultists in Oghara, located in the Otefe area of Delta State.

A police source told PUNCH Metro on Monday that this tragic event happened on Saturday evening.

Reports say Jeffrey and his colleague, Daniel, were on their way home from work when the attackers struck.

Jeffrey died from his gunshot wounds, while Daniel managed to survive and was taken to the hospital.

“We got a report that a young man named Jeffrey was killed while going home from work with his friend in Oghara. His friend was also hurt in the attack.

“Efforts were made to save Jeffrey, but he did not make it. His body has been moved to the morgue,” the police source said.

Naija Confra, a group that fights against cultism, posted about the incident on Monday. They stated that both men were attacked while riding a motorcycle from work.

The group also mentioned that Jeffrey was a graduate of Delta State Polytechnic.

They said, “On Saturday, September 12, 2026, between 10-11pm, two workers from an eatery in Otefe were attacked in Oghara while returning home on a motorcycle.

“One of the victims was Jeffrey, and the other was Daniel, who graduated from Delta State Polytechnic this year and survived the attack.”

The group added that Daniel was taken to a hospital far from the scene because some nearby hospitals were reportedly on strike.

It was also noted that Jeffrey and Daniel lived close to each other.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments. Calls to his phone went unanswered.

A text message sent to him has not been responded to as of the time of this report.
